Severe Weather Warning
for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES

For people in parts of Furneaux Islands, North East and Central North Forecast Districts.

Issued at 9:06 am Wednesday, 15 August 2018.

ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES ALONG THE CENTRAL NORTH AND NORTHEAST COASTS OF TASMANIA THIS AFTERNOON.

Weather Situation: A very vigorous west to northwesterly stream will coincide with high tide this afternoon.

ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES, which may cause sea water flooding of low lying areas, are likely along the coasts of the central north, northeast, Furneaux Islands and Tamar River during this afternoon's high tide between 2:00pm and 3:30pm.

Water levels could exceed the highest standard (astronomical) tide of the year by around 30 cm during this afternoon's high tide.

Locations which may be affected include Launceston, George Town, Whitemark and Bridport.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the King Island and North West Coast districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.


The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Wednesday.
